"The case of the 9 year old girl who had an abortion after being raped by her stepfather and impregnated with twins, reveals a vulnerable social situation that exposes girls in Brazil and the vulnerability of public institutions in front of the power of the fundamentalist Catholic Church.", says feminist Paula Vianna (Grupo Curumim), a nurse who helped the girl and her mother find a hospital where they could be assisted after they were turned down in the first hospital they went to, due to a request made by the conservative regional archbishop, José Cardosos Sobrinho.
